A GS1 standard for putting product identifiers into a web address, such as https://id.yourbrand.com/01/04006381333931. One QR code then works two ways: a phone opens a web page for the product, and a retail scanner reads the GTIN, batch or serial number from the same link.

A normal QR code only holds a link. A GS1 Digital Link QR also carries the product’s identity in a standard format, so retailers, recyclers and other systems can read it without knowing your website. GS1’s Sunrise 2027 initiative is moving retail checkouts toward 2D barcodes like these.

Use a domain you control, such as id.yourbrand.com, and point it at a resolver that decides where each scan goes. Printed packaging lasts for years, so the domain must keep working for as long as the product is in use. If you leave the domain empty, the link uses GS1’s global resolver, id.gs1.org.

EU rules require a data carrier, usually a QR code, that links to a unique product identifier and the passport. They don’t name GS1 specifically, but GS1 Digital Link is a widely used way to meet that, because the GTIN in the link identifies the product. Veribl serves passports at GS1 Digital Link addresses.

Only if you need to tell batches or individual items apart, for example for recalls, warranty registration or battery passports. Each extra value makes the QR denser, so leave them out when one code per product is enough.

Standard (M) suits most packaging. Choose Rugged (Q) or Maximum (H) for labels that may get scratched or curved; the code becomes denser, so print it larger. Smallest (L) only for clean, flat print.
