License one from the GS1 office in your country, such as GS1 UK or GS1 Germany. Depending on the office, you can buy single numbers or a company prefix for a range. Each product variant, such as every size and color, needs its own number. This generator draws the barcode once you have it.

No. The first three digits show which GS1 office issued the number, not where the product was made. A product made in China by a German brand usually starts with a German prefix (400 to 440).

No. A made-up number can belong to another company's product, and retailers and marketplaces such as Amazon check EANs against GS1's registry. Use only numbers licensed to your company.

EAN-13 is the standard almost everywhere outside North America, and US and Canadian scanners read it too. A UPC-A is the same as an EAN-13 that starts with 0, so if you already have a UPC, you can keep it.

At 100% an EAN-13 is about 37.3 by 25.9 mm. GS1 allows 80% to 200% of that size. Don't shorten the bars on their own, keep the white margin on both sides, and print dark bars on a light background.
